The Essence of Genealogy By Govindji Patel
Posted on Saturday, January 13 @ 22:27:00 EST by kishan

Genealogy Knowing your families past and how it was lived and how you ultimately fit into the greater scheme of things, has and always will determine who you are and where you are going. Genealogy is a fascinating trip into yesteryear, uncovering facts, interesting details, events and people that have shaped your life today.

Genealogy is an interesting past-time that the whole family can get involved in. When it comes down to it, most things begin at home, and genealogy is no different. Your quest to find out about your life and where you come from begins right on your doorstep. Speaking to your father and mother is an excellent way to start your search. Just as a detective would search for information about a crime: he would usually begin with the clues at hand, in the same way your parents will be able to shed some light about their lives and their parents.

Start your journey to discovery with simple information that is readily available, your birth and/or your children’s, and then work back in time. However, your search is made much easier if you have earlier generations that are still alive. There is no better way to complete your ‘genealogy’ journey than by getting first hand accounts of stories and memories that have shaped family members lives. Somewhere along your journey you may have to resort to other means of acquiring your genealogical information. Photo albums or deeds, wills and titles are an excellent source of information. These forms of information are cast in stone so to speak, and provide an accurate trail of investigation
leads.

As time goes on a persons heritage and family traditions may become less and less clearer to them. Family members pass away and their stories, recollections and rituals go with them. It is actually a pity that so many individuals allow this to happen. Genealogy is a fun and exciting way to make sure that your family history remains in tact for future generations to admire and carry on with. The thought of possibly being related to some famous or infamous person can be quite a thrill. Keeping this all in tact
for family members to admire is something all families should consider doing. These days to get involved in genealogy is quite simple, modern technology and computer genealogy software have made it so much easier to put all your findings into a readable and chronological order. All you have to do is gather the information in whatever way possible.

Genealogy and the preservation of family history is becoming more and more relevant in the modern era. Early traditions and ways of life are being left by the way side due to the hectic lives many of us find ourselves leading. People are becoming less clearer about their ancestors and where and what has shaped their lives. Due to circumstance many families have split and if it were not for genealogy many would not get to see new members entering the family line, or the birth of that bundle of joy.

Genealogy is not just about constructing a family tree. Genealogy is an in-depth look at how your family tree has been shaped by certain events and the day to day living of family members. Where they come from? Do they share the same culture? What paths brought each member to become part of your family tree? And how economical and social conditions of the time influenced their lives?
